Overview

Assigning issues makes ownership clear and helps teams manage feedback more efficiently. Each issue can have one assignee.

Assigning someone to an issue

There are multiple ways to assign someone:

  • Issue page: Click the assignee field on the issue page

  • Issue list: Use the inline assignee field on individual issues.

  • Bulk assignment: Select multiple issues and assign them all at once.

Tip: Use the keyboard shortcut A to open the assignment menu.

Automatic assignment

When a team member replies to a reporter on an unassigned issue, they’re automatically assigned to it. If an issue already has an assignee, this rule is skipped and the current assignment stays unchanged.

This encourages fast triage and minimizes unassigned feedback without needing extra clicks.

Permissions

  • Only one user can be assigned to an issue at a time.

  • The user must be part of the project (Member, Manager, or Admin).

  • Guest users can’t be assigned to issues and can’t change assignees.

Notifications

Assigned users are automatically added as followers of the issue. Followers receive email notifications when:

  • They’re assigned to an issue

  • A new comment is added

  • The issue is resolved

Working with assignees

Issue lists are organized around four views:

  • Open: All active issues.

  • Assigned to me: Open issues assigned to you.

  • Unassigned: Open issues with no assignee.

  • All issues: Full issue history, including archived and resolved items.

These views help teams stay on top of what's active, what needs triage, and what still lacks ownership. You can also filter the issue list by assignee to review workloads or find what’s assigned to a specific teammate.

Integrations

When working with tools like Jira, Linear, or others, changes to assignees in Marker.io are reflected by adding a comment on the connected issue. This ensures visibility across platforms without requiring manual syncs.

Issue assignees are available on all plans.

FAQ

Can I add multiple people to a single issue?

No, only 1 person can be assigned at a time.

Is the assignee in Marker synced with the assignee in my integration?

No. However, whenever there is a change of assignment on the Marker.io issue, a note is added to issues inside your tools like Jira.

Can I assign a Guest user to an issue?

Not at the moment. Only Members, Managers and Admins can be assigned
