Public Reporter Guide

This guide will walk you through using Marker.io to report issues or bugs directly from a website. Whether you're a seasoned pro or new to bug reporting, we've made sure this guide is simple and easy to follow.

The Issue Reporting Widget

Here's how to get started with the Marker.io widget, it often appears as a red button on your website.

  1. Click on the Widget: You'll find it on your website. It might look a little different depending on your team's preferences, but it's usually a button labeled something like "Report issue"

  2. Take a Screenshot: Once you click, a screenshot of the current webpage will appear, along with an issue report form.

How to Report an Issue

Found a bug or an issue, like a button that doesn't work? Follow these simple steps:

  1. Activate the Widget: Click on the issue reporting widget.

  2. View the Screenshot: On the left, you'll see a snapshot of the page. On the right, there's a form to fill out. The form might ask for different information depending on your team's settings.

  3. Highlight the Issue: Use the annotation tools at the top to mark the problem directly on the screenshot. This helps your team see exactly what's wrong.

  4. Fill Out the Form: Add any details that might help your team understand the issue better. Be specific if you can!

  5. Submit the Report: Click "Send Issue" to send your report. You might be asked to enter your name and email so the team can follow up with you. Your browser will remember this info for next time.

What Information is Automatically Captured

When you report an issue, Marker.io automatically collects some technical details to help your team troubleshoot:

  • Browser Version: The version of the web browser you are using.

  • Operating System: The operating system on your device (e.g., Windows, Mac, Linux).

  • URL: The web page's address where the issue occurred.

  • Console Logs: Technical data that might help identify the issue.

Email Notifications

After you submit an issue, you might get email notifications about:

  • Confirmation: Your team has received your issue report.

  • Comments: If someone comments on your report.

  • Status Updates: When your team closes or resolves the issue.

Each email will have a link that takes you directly to the issue page for more details.

The Issue Page

You can access the issue page through any link in the email notifications. Here’s what you can do on the issue page:

  • View and Add Comments: Engage with your team or provide more context.

  • Upload Additional Files: Share more screenshots or documents if needed.

  • Check Status: See if the issue is still open or resolved.
