Managing Slack & Email Notifications

Updated over a week ago

We offer several ways to stay updated when new issues are reported or when there's activity on existing issues. You can get notifications through Slack or email, depending on what works best for you and your team.

Slack Notifications

You can receive Slack notifications for new issues and updates, such as:

  • A new issue is reported.

  • A comment is added to an issue.

  • The status of an issue changes (like being marked as "Resolved").

How to Enable Slack Notifications

  1. Go to your website project's settings in Marker.io.

  2. Navigate to Notifications.

  3. Under Slack Notifications, choose what events you want to be alerted about.

  4. Link your Slack channel if you haven't already.

For a more detailed guide on setting up Slack notifications, check out our Slack Notifications Guide.

How email notifications work

Email notifications are managed in two places, each controlling a different audience:

  • Workspace settings control emails sent to public reporters and guests (issue received, issue resolved). These apply across all projects.

  • Project settings control status change notifications sent to issue followers (members, assignees, commenters). These are configured per website project.

Disabling a workspace notification (e.g. "Issue resolved") prevents that email from being sent to reporters and guests across all projects. Status change notifications for issue followers are not affected by workspace settings.

Workspace level (admin)

Workspace settings control whether reporters and guests receive emails. If a notification type is disabled here, no reporter or guest will receive that email in any project.

To configure:

  1. Under Email Notifications, toggle:

  2. Issue received - sends a confirmation email when a new issue is submitted. Sends to: public reporters.

  3. Issue resolved - sends an email when an issue is marked as resolved. Sends to: public reporters and guests.

Project level (admin)

Each website project has its own notification settings. Status change notifications control which status changes trigger emails to issue followers (anyone involved in the issue).

You can enable notifications for each status independently: Re-opened, In Progress, Resolved, and Closed.

What if "Issue resolved" is disabled in workspace settings? Reporters and guests will not receive a resolved email, even if Resolved is enabled in the project's status change notifications. The project toggle only controls whether issue followers (members, assignees, commenters) get notified. Reporter and guest emails are always controlled at the workspace level.

To configure:

  1. Go to your Website project > Settings.

  2. Navigate to Notifications.

  3. Under Status change notifications, toggle each status on or off.

User level (personal)

Members can opt out of status change notifications from their personal settings. This does not affect reporters or guests.

  1. Go to Profile settings > Notifications.

  2. Toggle status change emails on or off.

Customizing notifications for your workflow

If your team uses another tool to manage issues (e.g. Jira, Linear) or wants full control over email branding, you can disable workspace-level notifications. This prevents reporter and guest emails from being sent, without affecting status change notifications for your team.
