If you manage your team's Marker.io subscription, this guide explains what you pay for and when. You'll learn how plan changes work, what happens when you add or remove Members, and how refunds work.
At a glance
You're always billed upfront. Here's what happens when your plan or team changes:
Change | When it takes effect | When you're charged |
Upgrade your plan | Immediately | Right away, for the prorated amount |
Downgrade your plan | End of your billing cycle | At your next renewal, at the new plan price |
Add a Member (yearly plan) | Immediately | On the 1st of the next calendar month, prorated to the end of your billing cycle |
Add a Member (monthly plan) | Immediately | On your next billing date |
Remove a Member | Immediately, the seat stays available until renewal | Nothing extra. You can fill the free seat at no cost until renewal |
How your subscription works
Your subscription has two parts: your plan and your seats.
Your plan
Your plan is your base subscription: Starter or Team. You can pay for it monthly or yearly. Starter includes 3 seats and Team includes 15 seats.
On the Business plan? Your billing follows the terms in your contract. Chat with us or your account manager if you have questions.
User seats
A seat is a paid spot for one Member. When your team grows past the seats in your plan, each extra Member adds a seat to your subscription.
You can see current seat prices on our pricing page.
Who needs a seat?
Only Members need a seat. Members are your teammates who use the Marker.io dashboard to triage and manage issues.
Reporters are free and unlimited on every plan.
Guests are included up to your plan's limit: 10 on Starter and 50 on Team.
You're billed upfront
You pay at the start of each billing cycle for the whole cycle. Your billing cycle is the month or year your subscription covers, starting on your billing date.
How you pay
You can pay by credit card, including Visa, Mastercard, and American Express. All payments are handled securely by Stripe. If a payment method isn't working at checkout, or you're not sure it's accepted, reach out to support.
Prices don't include taxes. Your taxes are calculated at checkout based on your location.
Changing your plan
Upgrades and downgrades work differently. Here's what to expect.
Upgrading
When you upgrade, the change happens immediately. You're charged the prorated amount right away, and your new features unlock instantly.
Prorated means you only pay for the time left in your current billing cycle.
Example: You're on Starter yearly and switch to Team yearly halfway through your billing cycle. You pay the difference for the remaining six months. Team features are available right away.
Downgrading
When you downgrade, your current plan stays active until the end of your billing cycle. You keep every feature you've paid for until then, and your new plan starts at your next renewal. Because you get the full cycle on your current plan, there's no credit for the remaining time.
Example: You're on Team monthly and your last billing date was September 26. You downgrade to Starter on October 10. You keep enjoying Team until October 26, then move to Starter.
Adding Members
When you invite a new Member and all your seats are full, a new seat is added to your subscription. If you already have an empty seat, the new Member fills it at no extra cost.
Before you invite: adding a Member to a workspace with no empty seats adds a paid seat. If someone only needs limited access, invite them as a Guest instead. Guests are included up to your plan's limit at no extra cost.
On a yearly plan
New seats are charged on the first day of the next calendar month. The invoice covers the seat from the day you added it to the end of your billing cycle.
Example: You buy a yearly Starter plan on January 1. On January 22, you invite a new Member. On February 1, you receive an invoice for that seat, covering January 22 to December 31.
On a monthly plan
New seats are charged on your next billing date.
If your subscription is set to cancel
Your subscription stays active until the end of your billing cycle, so your team can keep working as usual. You can still add Members during this time, and you're still charged for the seat. When depends on your billing interval.
On a monthly plan: the seat is added to your final invoice, sent the day your subscription cancels.
On a yearly plan: the seat follows the normal rule for yearly plans. You're charged for it on the first day of the next calendar month, prorated to your cancellation date.
Removing Members
Good news: when you remove a Member, you keep their seat until your next renewal. It's already paid for, so you can give it to someone else at no extra cost.
Here's what that means for you:
You can invite someone new to that seat for free.
The seat stays yours for the rest of your current billing cycle.
At your next renewal, unused seats are removed, down to the minimum included in your plan. That way, you won't pay for them again.
We don't offer credits for empty seats, but you get full use of every seat you've paid for until renewal.
Example: Your team used 23 seats this billing cycle, and you've removed people down to 3 Members. Your Billing page will show:
"You can invite 20 more Members at no additional cost during your current billing cycle because those seats have already been paid for. Any unused seats will be removed at your next renewal, down to the minimum included in your plan."
Tip: Replacing one Member with another? Remove the old Member before inviting the new one. The new Member takes the freed seat, so your bill doesn't change.
Yearly vs. monthly billing
You can pay for Marker.io yearly or monthly. Your choice affects how much you pay and when your seats are adjusted.
Yearly billing costs less on every plan.
Your plan renews automatically on the same calendar day. A yearly plan bought on May 3 renews on May 3 the next year. A monthly plan bought on May 3 renews on June 3.
Unused seats are removed at each renewal. On a monthly plan, that happens every month. On a yearly plan, it happens once a year.
Switching from yearly to monthly
Switching from yearly to monthly isn't available at the moment. Your yearly plan stays active, at its lower price, until the end of your billing cycle.

Only Admins can view and manage billing. If you're an Admin, here's how to check your plan:
Go to Workspace Settings.

Common questions
I upgraded my plan by mistake. What can I do?
Chat with us as soon as possible and we'll review it with you.
I added a Member by mistake. Will I be charged?
Remove the Member, then chat with us and we'll review it with you.
Can I get a refund?
You can request a refund within 30 days of any charge, including yearly renewals. Read our refund policy for the full details.
I cancelled my subscription. Why was I still charged?
If you added a Member before your cancellation date, you're still charged for that seat. On a monthly plan, it's on your final invoice, sent the day your subscription cancels. On a yearly plan, it follows the normal seat billing: charged on the first of the next calendar month, prorated to your cancellation date.
My payment failed. What happens?
If a payment doesn't go through, access to your paid plan is paused until it does. Update your payment method in your Billing settings and you'll be back up and running.
Free trial
You can try Marker.io free for 15 days with full access to the Team plan. You can report up to 25 issues during the trial, and no credit card is required.
