If you're having trouble getting the Marker.io widget to show up on your website, don’t worry—we’re here to help. Below, you’ll find step-by-step instructions to solve common issues and get the widget working.

1. Check Your Installation

Is the Marker.io Code Installed Properly?

  • Verify Code Placement:

    • Ensure the Marker.io widget code is correctly placed in the HTML of your website.

    • Place the code right before the closing </head> tag in your HTML.

  • Check Your HTML Source Code:

    • Open your website’s HTML source code and search for the term "markerConfig".

    • If "markerConfig" is missing, the code might not be installed properly.

  • Double-Check Installation Steps:

    • Go through the installation instructions again to ensure every step was followed.

    • Confirm that the Marker.io code snippet is properly added to your site.

2. Clear Your Cache

Cached data can sometimes prevent the widget from loading as expected. Clearing your cache might help.

Steps to Clear Your Cache:

  • Clear Your Website Cache:

    • Clear the server cache of your website to ensure the latest version is displayed.

  • Clear Your Browser Cache:

    • Clear the cache in your browser to remove any stored data that might cause issues.

3. Widget Visibility for Logged-In Users

Some settings might be preventing the widget from appearing, especially for logged-in users.

Enable Cookies and Cross-Site Scripting:

  • Enable Cookies:

    • Ensure cookies are enabled in your browser settings.

  • Allow Cross-Site Scripting:

    • Adjust your browser settings to allow cross-site scripting, as some browsers, particularly on mobile devices, may block it by default.

  • See our guide for detailed instructions on the above.

Check Your Account Status:

Make sure your Marker.io trial hasn’t expired, or your subscription hasn’t been canceled. You can verify your account status on Marker.io.

Widget Visibility Settings:

Is the widget set to "Hidden" or restricted to "Known Marker.io users only". Refer to our widget visibility guide for setup tips.

4. Troubleshooting WordPress Plugin Issues

If you're using WordPress, there are specific steps you can take to ensure your Marker.io widget shows up properly.

Avoid Conflicts:

  • Do Not Install Both the Plugin and Code:

    • If you’re using the Marker.io WordPress plugin, don’t install the snippet code as well—choose one method to avoid conflicts.

Check Widget and Plugin Settings:

  • Widget Settings:

    • Make sure your Marker.io widget visibility settings are correct. Check our widget visibility guide for details.

  • Plugin Settings:

    • Ensure the WordPress plugin settings are targeting the correct page type and user role.

Disable Conflicting Plugins:

  • Conflicting Plugins:

    • Some plugins, like caching plugins, may interfere with Marker.io. Try disabling them temporarily to see if the widget appears, then adjust caching settings as needed.

5. Common Coding Issues

Some common coding issues might prevent the widget from appearing. Here’s what to check:

Incorrect Snippet Code Installed:

  • Update Your Snippet Code:

    • If you’ve added the Marker.io snippet code and later created a new project, make sure to update the snippet code on your site to match the current Marker.io project.

Duplicate Code Added:

  • Check for Duplicate Code:

    • Ensure that the Marker.io code appears only once in your HTML source code. Having it more than once will cause problems.

6. Handling Conflicts

Conflicts with other elements on your site can also cause issues with the Marker.io widget. Here’s how to address them:

Conflicts with Ads or Popups:

  • Disable Ads or Popups Temporarily:

    • Ads or popups on your site might interfere with the Marker.io widget. Disable them temporarily to test if they are the cause, and adjust their settings to avoid conflicts.

Conflicts with Browser Plugins:

  • Disable Conflicting Plugins:

    • Some browser plugins, like ad blockers or spell checkers, might conflict with Marker.io. Disable these plugins on sites where Marker.io is installed to see if the widget shows up.

Content Security Policy (CSP):

  • Check CSP Settings:

    • Ensure that your site’s Content Security Policy (CSP) allows the Marker.io script to load. Check your browser’s console for any CSP-related errors and adjust your settings as needed.
