User Roles in Detail
Public Reporter
A Public Reporter is any person that can access a website where our widget is installed. They don't need a Marker.io account. They are your website users or clients who can provide feedback using the Guest Form. To maintain transparency, we notify Public Reporters via email about the status of their feedback. Public Reporters can also comment on their issues. You can find more about their role in our Public Reporter Guide.
Handling Public Reporter Personal Information
To keep Public Reporters informed about the feedback progress, we cache their Name and Email in their browser after the first report. If these users are logged into your website or webapp, you can programmatically pass their credentials via our code snippet. This ensures that they aren't repeatedly asked for this information. For more details, please refer to our documentation on identifying Public Reporters.
Public Reporters may be:
Users of your web app/site.
End users of a website you have developed for your agency clients.
Non-technical users.
Public Reporters may:
Submit feedback on the Guest Form [more on Forms later].
See issue status updates.
Add comments and upload files to expand on their Feedback.
Public Reporter Email notifications
Public Reporters are notified via email when:
A Public Reporter submits new feedback.
Anyone comments on feedback they've reported or commented on.
Their issue has been marked as Resolved.
Feel free to edit these email notifications. See here for details.

Do you have some Public Reporters on your team?
Send them our Public Reporter Guide.
Is there a way to disable "Public Reporter"?
Sometimes, you may not require "Public reporters" to submit feedback. You can lock down the Marker.io widget to known users only.
Settings > Widget > Button > Logged in users only.
Guests
A Guest is a Reporter that frequently provides feedback. Guests can access the Guest Portal, which allows them to review their feedback, including screenshots, comments, and feedback status. This feature helps non-technical users stay updated without needing full access to your internal tools. If you have any Guests on your team, consider sharing our Guest Reporter Guide with them.
The Guest Portal View
By default, your Guests can view each other's feedback to help reduce duplication. Note this setting can be changed at the project level:
Project > Settings > General > Feedback visibility > Guests can view and comment on feedback from other guests > Toggle off
Guests may be project stakeholders, including:
Clients
Beta testers
End-users
Any other non-technical tester
Usually, Guests do not have access to your internal project management tools.
Guests may be invited to your Marker.io account on a per-project basis.
Guest Email notifications
We notify Guests via email when:
Anyone comments on feedback you've reported or commented on.
Their issue has been marked as Resolved.
