Would you like to connect your website to multiple projects using Marker.io? This guide will walk you through everything you need to know in a straightforward way. Let’s dive in!

Understanding Projects and Website Domains

When you report an issue through Marker.io, you might see an option to choose which project your issue should go to. This choice depends on your role and the permissions you have. Let’s see how you can set up Marker.io so it knows exactly where to send issues from your website.

Setting Up a Default Project for Your Website

  1. Go to Your Project Settings:
Head over to Project > Settings > General > Website Domains. Here, you'll list the websites you want to track issues for.

  2. Auto-Select the Correct Project:
When someone reports an issue from your website, Marker.io automatically links it to the right project based on your domain settings. Easy, right?

Handling Multiple Projects on the Same Domain

  1. Embed a JavaScript Snippet:
If your domain is connected to multiple projects, you’ll need to add a small piece of code (a JavaScript snippet) to your website. This snippet helps Marker.io know which project to pick first.

  2. Default Behavior Without Snippet:
Without this snippet, Marker.io will send issues to the newest project you created.

Customizing Widget Visibility and Reporting

You can control who can see the Marker.io widget on your website. You can set the widget to be visible to everyone, restrict it to specific users, or hide it entirely. Here’s a guide on how to manage these settings: How to Control the Marker.io Widget Visibility.

Managing Projects on a Single Domain

Assign Projects to Specific Pages:
You can connect different pages to different projects by installing unique scripts on each page.

  • Example:

    • domain.com/client-a → Install the script for "Project A"

    • domain.com/client-b → Install the script for "Project B"

Reporting to Multiple Projects

  1. Choose Your Project:
Reporters with access to several projects can pick where to send issues. The project associated with the snippet code on the page will be automatically selected.

  2. Access for Members and Guests:

    • Members can access all projects by default.

    • Guests don’t have access unless invited to specific projects.

Guest Reporting and Project Selection

Allowing Guests to Report to Different Projects

  • Guests usually can’t switch projects on their own. If you want them to, invite them to the projects you want them to access. You can do this in the "Invite" menu within each project.

Using the Extension for Reporting

  1. Extension vs. In-Page Widget:
If someone uses the browser extension instead of the widget, Marker.io defaults to the last project that person used. We recommend using the in-page widget for consistency.

  2. Reporting Without a Script:
You can still report issues using the extension, even if you haven’t added the script to your website. Just click the extension on any site, and you can report to any project you have access to.

  3. Activating the Widget:
If you can’t change your website’s code, the browser extension can activate the widget for you. Learn more about this here.

By following these steps, you can connect Marker.io with your website easily, making it simple to report issues across multiple projects.
