Welcome to our step-by-step guide on integrating Marker.io with Pivotal Tracker. In this guide, you'll learn how to easily set up this connection using Zapier and Webhooks.

What You'll Need

Before we dive in, let's make sure you have everything ready:

  • Zapier Premium Account: You'll need access to Zapier's premium features.

  • Marker.io Team Plan (or higher): Make sure your Marker.io account is on the Team plan.

  • Pivotal Tracker Account: Have your Pivotal Tracker account details handy.

How Does It Work?

We'll use Zapier, a tool that connects different apps together, to create a "Zap" that sends issues from Marker.io to Pivotal Tracker. Here’s how to set it up:

Set Up a New Zap in Zapier

In both cases, select Webhooks by Zapier as the app and for the event, select Catch Hook. Then, click Continue.

Zapier will then generate a new endpoint. Copy the URL to your clipboard.

Create Your Marker.io Project

  1. Log in to Marker.io: Go to app.marker.io and sign in.

  2. Create a New Project:

    • Click on "New Project."

    • Enter your project's name and the website where you'll collect issues.

    • Choose Webhooks as the integration type.

    • Paste the webhook URL you copied from Zapier.

  3. Create Project: Click on "Create Project."

Receive and Test Data in Zapier

Once your project is created, Marker.io will instantly send a sample issue with dummy data.

Now, head back over to Zapier and under Find data, click TEST & REVIEW.

Zapier should have detected the issue and display the hook and the relevant data.

If Zapier does not find any sample data, you can try again, simply go to the Settings page of your new project and under Endpoint, click Send sample issue. This will send a new sample issue to your Zapier endpoint.

Now, click Get More Samples in Zapier and you should see the new sample data

Create a Story in Pivotal Tracker

It's now time to have Zapier create a new task every time someone reports feedback in your new Webhooks project.

Again, to speed up the process, feel free to use our Zap template 👇

If you decide to do it manually, in your new Zap, click on the next step and select Pivotal Tracker as the app, select Create New Story as the action and then click Continue.

Next, you will need to configure the structure of your new Pivotal Tracker story. Use the buttons on the right of the fields to insert the various variables that were received by the hook.

For instance, use the issue title and issue type in your new Story title. Feel free to customize your Story however you want. The following image is just a suggestion.

Again, if you're using our Zap template from above, this should step will be a lot easier as all variables and template will be pre-filled for you. For more information about the Pivotal Tracker app, read their documentation here

Once you are done, click on Send data to send a test email based on your configuration. If you are not happy with the result, tweak the configuration at the previous step and click RETEST & REVIEW.

Turn on Your Zap

Your Zap should now be ready, and all that is left is to turn it on!

Your users will now be able to report issues as new stories thanks to the combination of Marker.io's Webhooks integration and Zapier.
