Issue Types help your team quickly understand what kind of feedback is being reported โ€” whether itโ€™s a bug, a new feature idea, or something else.

Theyโ€™re a simple way to organize feedback and make sure everything lands in the right place, both inside Marker.io and in your connected tools like Jira, Trello, and more.

What Are Issue Types?

Issue Types are simple labels that describe the type of feedback someone is giving. You can use the default ones or create your own (on certain plans).

Here are some common types:

Type

Used For

๐Ÿ› Bug

Something is broken or not working as expected

๐Ÿš€ Improvement

A suggestion or idea to make something better

๐Ÿ› ๏ธ Custom Types

Any other type your team needs

Where You'll See Issue Types

Youโ€™ll come across issue types in a few places:

  • Issue list โ€“ A new icon appears next to every issue to show its type.

  • When reporting feedback โ€“ Reporters choose the type that fits their message.

  • On widget forms โ€“ Each type can have its own form to ask the right questions.

  • In the issue itself โ€“ Every report gets tagged with a type.

  • Inside your tools โ€“ The issue type is passed into your Jira, Trello, ClickUp, etc.

Reporting with Issue Types

When someone submits feedback through the widget, they can choose an Issue Type.

  • Reporters will see descriptions for each type to help them choose the right one.

  • You can customize those descriptions and default form templates for each type.

๐Ÿ’ก Example:

  • Improvement: โ€œWhatโ€™s your suggestion? Why is this needed?โ€

  • Bug: โ€œWhat went wrong? What did you expect?โ€

  • Task: โ€œWhat task needs to be done?โ€

Widget Forms

Each issue type can have its own form. This helps you ask the right questions based on the type of feedback. You can collect different details from guests members by customizing issue types for each role.

๐Ÿ’ก Tip: Set up a different bug report template by issue type. eg:

  • Improvement: What's your suggestion? Why is this needed?

  • Bug: What's the problem? What did you expect?

Auto-Hiding Issue Type Field

If only one issue type/form is enabled, the widget will automatically hide the issue type selection โ€” simplifying the experience for your reporters.

Show Different Issue Types to Different Users

You can control which issue types guests and team members see.

Why this matters:

  • Guests might only need to report bugs.

  • Members might handle feature requests and internal tasks.

Example:
If you connect Marker.io to Jira and your Jira has lots of issue types, you donโ€™t have to show them all to everyone. Just pick the ones that matter.

Issue Types Within Issue Page

Every reported issue is assigned an issue type, so your team can understand the nature of the feedback at a quick glance.

  • Admins, Managers, Members: Can view and modify issue types.

  • Guests: Can view issue types.

Issue Types in Your Connected Tools

When you use one of our integrations, weโ€™ll display the issue type directly in your connected tools. If the issue type ever changes in Marker.io, weโ€™ll add a comment on the issue to keep everything up to date.

Filtering Issues by Type

You can now filter your issue list based on the issue type. For example:

  • Show only ๐Ÿ› Bugs to prioritize critical issues.

  • View ๐Ÿš€ Improvements for planning sprints.

  • Focus on โœ… Tasks assigned to your team.
