Below we walk you through the steps to secure your Marker.io widget, ensuring it only appears on trusted websites. This helps prevent unauthorized use and unwanted issues on your projects.

Why Restrict Widget Usage?

Marker.io widgets are designed to help collect issue reports from your website users. By default, the same Marker.io JavaScript code can work across multiple sites, like:

  • website1.com

  • website2.com

  • staging.website3.com

  • uat.website4.com

However, if your widget is on a public website, others could copy your code and use it elsewhere. This can lead to unwanted or irrelevant issues being sent to your projects. To avoid this, you can restrict your widget's usage to a list of trusted websites.

How to Secure Your Widget to Trusted Domains

Follow these steps to secure your widget and make sure it only functions on the domains you choose.

  1. Go to Project Settings: Log in to your Marker.io account and open the project you want to secure.

  2. Navigate to General Settings: In the project settings menu, click on Settings and then select General.

  3. Enable Domain Restriction

    • Locate the option labeled "Secure your widget."

    • Click to enable Restrict to listed domains.

  4. List Your Trusted Domains:

    • In the Website domains section, enter the URLs of all websites where the widget should work.

Only these listed sites will be able to display the widget.
