Below we walk you through the steps to secure your Marker.io widget, ensuring it only appears on trusted websites. This will help prevent unauthorized use and unwanted issues on your projects.

Why Secure Your Widget?

By default, you can use the same Marker.io JavaScript code on multiple websites. For example:

  • website1.com

  • website2.com

  • staging.website3.com

  • uat.website4.com

However, if your widget is installed on a publicly accessible domain, someone with bad intentions could copy your code and install your widget on other websites. This might lead to spam or irrelevant issues being reported.

To prevent this, you can enable domain protection, ensuring that your widget works only on the websites you need.

Steps to Secure Your Widget

Here's how you can secure your widget and restrict its use to trusted domains:

  1. Go to Project Settings: Log in to your Marker.io account and open the project you want to secure.

  2. Navigate to Widget Security: In the project settings menu, click on Widget and then select Security.

  3. Enable Domain Restriction: Find the option that says Restrict to listed domains and select it.

  4. List Your Trusted Domains:

    • Go to Settings > General > Website domains.

    • Add each domain where you want your widget to appear. This ensures that your widget will only work on these specific sites.
